Community Fund
  • The Province of Ontario is taking action to help restore and protect the Great Lakes.
  • The Ministry wants "Ontarians to enjoy healthy, vibrant Great Lakes that are drinkable, swimmable and fishable, now and in the future."
  • Grants of up to $25,000 per project (minimum 60 grants this year),are being offered to community groups and organizations, to help restore their own corner of the Lakes.
  • Opportunities for future funding may be available.
  • The fund is part of the Great Lakes Strategy to support Ontario's proposed Great Lakes Protection Act (announced June 6, 2012)
  • The strategy proposes a community action program that: "... could help fund small-scale local community actions to restore and protect the Great Lakes." (p. 35)"
  • Eligible project examples include "Empowering communities -- · Create or maintain a hiking trail or canoe route
